Message creators and DM limits
Fans can message creators from the Messages section, as long as the creator’s messaging settings and account eligibility allow it.
## Send a message to a creator
1. Go to Messages.
2. Search for the creator, or select them from your existing messages.
3. Write your message.
4. Review any cost shown before sending.
Some creators charge for direct messages or require a tip. If there is a cost, it will be shown before you send.
## Free messages
Some memberships include free messages. Check your membership details to see how many messages are included.
Passes Premium may also include free messages to creators in the Passes Premium list, when supported by that creator.
Free message allowances refresh on a 30-day cycle. Unused free messages do not roll over.
## Media messages
You may be able to send photos, videos, GIFs, or voice messages if the creator has media messages enabled. Creators can turn media messages on or off in their settings, including for individual chats.
## If DMs are disabled
If you see DMs disabled or cannot send a message, it may be because:
- The creator has disabled DMs.
- The creator only allows active members to message them.
- The creator only accepts messages with a tip or through Passes Premium.
- You do not have an active qualifying membership.
- Your account is not eligible to message that creator.
- Age restrictions apply.
Creators can choose who is allowed to message them. Member-only messaging means only fans with an active membership can send DMs, even with tips.
Users under 18 may not be able to access or message adult-rated creators. Adult-rated creators may also be hidden in search for under-18 accounts.
## Message limits
Your available messages depend on your membership tier, Passes Premium subscription, and the creator’s settings.
If you use all included free messages, you may need to send a paid/tipped message or upgrade your membership to unlock more messaging perks.
## Group chats
Group chats may have their own access rules, such as follower-only or member-only access. Once you have access, regular DM free-message limits do not apply to group chat conversation.
