OBS Setup for Live Streaming
# OBS setup for live streaming
## What is OBS?
OBS is free, open-source software for video recording and live streaming. You can use it to stream on Passes from sources like your webcam, screen capture, or other media inputs.
## Download and install OBS
1. Go to https://obsproject.com
2. Download the version for your operating system: Windows, Mac, or Linux.
3. Follow the installation steps shown by OBS.
## Set up OBS for Passes
1. Open OBS.
2. Select Settings.
3. Go to the Stream tab.
4. Under Service, select Custom.
5. Copy your Ingestion Endpoint / Server from the Passes livestream page and paste it into the Server field in OBS.
6. Copy your Streaming Key from Passes and paste it into the Stream Key field in OBS.
Keep your Streaming Key private. Do not share it with anyone.
## Find your Passes streaming details
1. Go to Creator Tools > Livestreaming.
2. Open the Streaming Software section.
3. Copy the Ingestion Endpoint / Server.
4. Copy the Streaming Key.
## Set up scenes and sources in OBS
OBS uses scenes and sources:
- Scenes are layouts you can switch between, like an intro screen or webcam-only view.
- Sources are the individual inputs inside a scene, like a webcam, screen capture, browser source, or text.
- Audio Mixer controls your microphone and desktop audio.
- Scene Transitions control how scenes switch.
- Controls let you start or stop streaming and access settings.
To add a scene, right-click under Scenes and select Add, or use the + button.
To add a source, select the + button under Sources.
Common sources include:
- Video Capture Device for webcams
- Browser Source for web pages
- Text for on-screen text
## Audio setup
1. Go to Settings > Audio.
2. Select your microphone and desktop audio devices.
3. Use headphones while streaming to help avoid feedback or echo.
## Start your livestream
1. Go to Creator Tools > Livestreaming on Passes.
2. Set your livestream title, description, access, and pricing.
3. Make sure your video source is set to Streaming Software.
4. In OBS, select Start Streaming.
5. On Passes, select Go Live.
## End your livestream
When you are finished:
1. Select Stop Streaming in OBS.
2. Select End Live on Passes.
